After accepting for years that GMail is blinding me I finally asked my agent and it installed https://darkreader.org for me.

Explanation

What it says Peter Steinberger says he’d tolerated Gmail’s bright interface for years, then simply asked his software agent to fix it; the agent installed Dark Reader, a browser extension that applies dark mode to websites.

Context The interesting part is less Dark Reader itself than the interaction model: instead of searching for a solution, comparing extensions, installing one, and configuring it manually, he delegated the whole small computer-maintenance task to an agent. No further details are given about which agent, its permissions, or whether installation required confirmation.

Why it matters It’s a compact example of agents shifting software use from “figure out which UI steps accomplish my goal” to “state the desired outcome.” Mundane friction that previously wasn’t worth fixing may become worth delegating because the transaction cost approaches zero. The broader question is how safely agents should be allowed to modify a user’s environment—installing extensions is useful, but also grants third-party code significant browser access.
